DANCE WELL

2022-2025

Dance Well

This project aim to promote and disseminate at European level the initiative developed, since 2013, by the City of Bassano del Grappa through its CSC Centro per la Scena Contemporanea. Since 2016, an informal network has also been established, which currently includes several iItalian organisations and partners in Asia as well.

Dance Well supports the professional development of dance artists and organisations that aim to address and be accessible to people with Parkinson's disease or other movement disorders through dance. The project expands skills, competences and knowledge in order to improve possibilities and capacities to become meaningful for the societies, contributing with innovative approaches to well-being and social cohesion.

The main objectives of the project include:

  • to develop and test innovative dance practices;
  • to implement, transfer and disseminate knowledge and experience among European regions;
  • to support the recovery of dance artists and organisations involving people with Parkinson's and other mobility disorders, in the light of the COVID-19 crisis;
  • to contribute to the well-being of individuals and social cohesion; developing the culture of dance and its impact in civil societies.

Among the main activities:

  • intensive training for approximately 40 new Dance Well teachers;
  • Dance Well dance classes in 6 different European countries;
  • creation and presentation of dance and audiovisual works;
  • research and analysis; dissemination events.

Fondazione Fitzcarraldo is in charge of the action research for the entire duration of the project, as well as monitoring and evaluating the impacts generated, combining quantitative approach and surveys with qualitative, partly ethnographic, methodologies.

In particular, the research intends to investigate:

  • the outcomes generated for dance artists and dance organisations in particular in terms of upskilling and development of new poetics and aesthetics, changing the perception of those who create, practice and develop creative processes;
  • the outcomes generated for participants in Dance Well dance classes, living with or without Parkinson's, particularly in terms of development and promotion of well-being – both individual and social – with the ambition of experimenting with a measurement of people's well-being using representative and co-constructed taxonomies and metrics;
  • the enabling conditions to be collected and systematised within guidelines and recommendations for the dissemination of the project.

The partners, together with Fondazione Fitzcarraldo:
