Abstract

STORM (Shakespearean Theatre for Outlasting Resilience in Mental Health) is a transnational project leveraging Shakespearean theatre to address the mental health crisis among young people (aged 18–25). Through participatory workshops, capacity-building activities, and an international co-production, the project aims to raise awareness about mental health, combat stigma, and engage local communities. The project culminates in a flexible, touring theatrical production designed to connect with European audiences and communities through workshops and performances.

Goals

In a world increasingly shaped by uncertainty, the mental well-being of young people has never been more fragile. Yet, there is an innate resilience and creativity within this generation that can flourish when given the right tools and opportunities. STORM seeks to harness the transformative power of theatre to shine a light on mental health challenges, foster meaningful connections, and inspire change – both on stage and in life.

  • Raise awareness and fight stigma around mental health
Theatre can promote greater understanding of mental health issues, breaking down cultural and social barriers and fostering psychological well-being.
  • Boost the involvement of young people in theatre by actively engaging them in the creative process
Provide young participants with the opportunity to co-create and perform theatrical works, fostering self-expression, resilience, and a sense of belonging.
  • Empower artists and young people with new skills
Equip artists with tools to work in the field of mental health and well-being while developing soft skills in young participants, enabling them to navigate contemporary societal challenges.
  • Promote transnational cooperation in theatre
Rafforzare le connessioni tra le organizzazioni culturali europee attraverso una produzione teatrale condivisa, innovativa e sostenibile.
