Abstract

The Cultural Observatory of Piedmont (OCP) is a public-private partnership established through an agreement between institutions, local administrations, banking foundations, industry associations, non-economic public entities, and public and private research institutes. It was founded in 1998.

Goals

The Observatory’s mission has always been to provide data and knowledge for those operating in cultural sectors, achieved through various functions and services. This includes the continuous updating of databases through monitoring different cultural areas (museums, cinemas, libraries, library systems, etc.).

Annual reports

Our role

Fitzcarraldo is responsible for the research activities carried out by OCP.
Research work is conducted within institutional activities and specific commissioned or collaborative projects with other entities or institutes. The primary output of institutional activity is the Annual Report, produced by the Observatory since 1998, which serves as an interpretative tool for the cultural panorama of Piemonte and allows comparisons at a supra-regional level.

Special investigations and projects delve into qualitative or quantitative aspects of cultural policies, verify the feasibility and sustainability of projects with a cultural focus, and analyse lesser-known aspects of the sector.

Scientific and cultural autonomy makes OCP an independent body, ensuring that research, assistance, and support to decision-makers are conducted without pressure or risk of distortion.

Over its more than 20 years of activity, the Observatory has engaged in frequent and intense exchanges with other Italian and foreign Observatories, universities, and research centres in Italy. It has maintained constant relations with ISTAT and MiC and, at the European and international levels, with Eurostat, UNESCO, OECD, and networks gathering cultural operators and researchers in the cultural field.
