Abstract

EU HAVE A DREAM is a European cooperation project that harnesses the power of participatory theatre to inspire democratic engagement among young people. By fostering dialogue between citizens, artists, and policymakers, the project addresses some of Europe’s most pressing challenges, including climate change, social inequality, and civic disengagement. Through workshops and theatre debates across five countries – Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Belgium, and Germany – EU HAVE A DREAM empowers the next generation to imagine and co-create solutions for a more inclusive and sustainable Europe.

Goals

At the heart of EU HAVE A DREAM lies a powerful belief: young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow, but the changemakers of today. Through this project, we aim to provide them with the tools, spaces, and inspiration needed to reclaim their role in shaping the future of democracy. Our objectives reflect a commitment to fostering empowerment, dialogue, and collaboration across all levels of society.

:

  • Empower young people: build confidence, skills, and knowledge to actively participate in democratic processes.
  • Foster democratic dialogue: create inclusive spaces where diverse voices can exchange ideas and perspectives.
  • Strengthen connections: bridge the gap between young citizens, artists, and policymakers to encourage collaborative problem-solving.
  • Promote social inclusion: use participatory theatre as a tool to engage marginalised and underrepresented groups in the democratic conversation.
  • Encourage innovation: develop new formats for cultural participation that inspire critical thinking and civic responsibility.

Our role

As a partner in EU HAVE A DREAM, Fondazione Fitzcarraldo brings its expertise in research, evaluation, and cultural innovation to ensure the project’s success.

Our role includes:

  • Designing the evaluation framework: we have developed tools and methodologies to assess the impact of workshops and theatre debates on young participants, artists, and audiences.
  • Conducting research visits: our team engages directly with project activities across partner countries, collecting qualitative insights through interviews, observation, and focus groups.
  • Supporting partner organisations: we provide guidance and resources to help partners implement evaluation tools and gather data effectively.
  • Synthesizing findings: through our reports and analysis, we contribute to a deeper understanding of how participatory theatre can drive civic engagement and influence democratic processes.
