Abstract

The SINAPSIS project – Cultural Innovation in the Canary Islands – aims to strengthen the live performing arts sector of the Canary Islands. It supports cross-sector cooperation and positions the creative economy as a driver for sustainable development by encouraging its integration with the Sustainable Development Goals of the Agenda Canaria 2030. The programme includes a pathway of incubation, modelling and support, as well as economic investment for 16 projects during the course of 2023 and 2024.

Goals

The programme objectives are:

  • To innovate the live arts sector in the Canary Islands, also taking account of the considerable geographical differences in the region
  • To improve the economic sustainability of the sector
  • To increase the sector’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals

Our role

Within the consortium, the Fitzcarraldo Foundation has been responsible for designing the Sinapsis programme schedule, and for contributing to the content of the capacity-building scheme offered to cultural managers. Its specific mission has also been to draft an evaluation plan which can show the impact that cultural development can generate in the various local contexts of the islands, and how cross-sector collaborations can be developed using culture as a starting point.

Partners

This project stems from a collaborative effort for innovation and knowledge transfer between the Government of the Canary Islands, the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development, the University of Barcelona, and the Fitzcarraldo Foundation within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan funded by the European Union through the Next Generation EU funds.
